Track your ad unit performances with Ad Groups!
What’s an ad group?
Ad Groups enable you to verticalize your ad units into different groups based on your specified criteria and view detailed reporting about the performance of these groups.
Say you’re a sport publisher and have several topic pages about “soccer” and “tennis”. By creating the ad groups “soccer” and “tennis”, and then assigning your ad units to one of these ad groups, you can compare the performances of your soccer pages to your tennis pages. While ad groups can be used to track performance and revenue, they won’t have any effect on your earnings or ad targeting.
With up to 100 ad groups, you can manage your groups to gain the insight you need to optimize your site’s performance. It’s easy to add, delete, or rename your ad groups, and customized reports are simple to generate.
How to use ad groups?
1. Create your groups
Under your Publisher Program, go to Manage Ads > Manage Groups. Create your groups of ad unit there:

2. Assign your groups
Once you have setup all your groups, it’s time to assign your ad units to them!

Via the page Manage Ads > Create Ads, you will see a new step: “Step 3: Choose your Ad Group” where you can assign one of the group you previously created to your current ad unit.
Start typing the group of your choice and the auto-complete field will suggest the matching groups. Select one, and then continue to step 4 (publish your ad unit) exactly as you used to do. If you do not want to assign your ad unit to a group, you can skip this step by clicking on “Next”.
Note: if you would like to assign your pre-published ad units to the newly groups you created, you would need to re-generate the code of your ad unit through the “Create Ads” page, and then overwrite your previous ad unit code with this new code into the html code of your page.
3. Track your group performances
Once you have pasted your ad units into your pages, they will start collecting data related to the groups you assigned them to. You can track this data by going into your performance reports page and choosing “report by group”, then press the “display report” button. There, you can compare the performances of your different groups of ad units.

Enjoy managing your ad groups on the Publisher Program!
